Every year, you hear people talk about making new year resolutions. I never keep mine so... I don't really give it much thought. That, and I probably make new ones every 3 months. I'm gonna study more, I'm gonna work out more. Resolutions are simply things we wish to be better at doing. We probably make them a lot more often then we think we do. They're just most common at the new year and you do it consciously.

NYE with K & B 5 years ago
Every year at the new year many people are consciously making the decision to work out more and by February half if not more of those people have failed on their new year's resolutions. Is this any reason to give up on making new year's resolutions? If you're like me yes... because you make new ones every couple of months without even thinking about doing it. But if you're not then no because they can actually be helpful even for that little while, and it is possible they will last for once.

One year, about 10 years ago my brother-in-law made a resolution to not drink for a whole year, and he did it. Resolutions are not impossible. Just like many things, if you get off the schedule you'll stopping doing it, at least that's how it often works for me with cooking, studying, working out, writing, and probably a million other things.

So.. are you making a New Year's Resolution this year? If so what is it? Mine will be to work out more at least until March when I have my Physical Fitness Test for the Marine Corps. I'll be starting my gym challenge when I get back to school on the 5th. I hope you have a wonderful New Year. I'll tell you all about mine tomorrow.

Resturants: Skipolini's

Didn't do much today. I had work all day at Old Navy. I got home and was gonna make Chicken Parmesan for dinner, but then my parents wanted to go to pizza. So, we went to our favorite Pizza place, or at least mine; Skipolini's. There are about 5 locations I think in the bay area.

I love the pizza, I actually like it better the next day. We also had the house salad and their bread with olive oil and vinegar. I think that's what you dip it in. It's a pretty standard Italian dipping oil. I like the house salad, but I wish it didn't come with beets. I don't like beets. There's actually not that much in the house salad, beets, croutons, garbanzo beans, and onions. Now, that I think about it i don't really like that much in it, but its easy to avoid the gross stuff. It's still pretty good, its a nice and basic salad.

I always get pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, its my favorite, their pesto pizza is pretty good too, but we didn't get any of that one today. We usually go to the Skipolini's in Downtown Concord, but I actually think I like the one in Clayton better. I can't really explain why I just do. The Concord one is only a little bit closer to our house I think.

49er game.

So, today was my first experience at a professional football game. It was so much fun. I wish I had a chance to go sooner and I cannot wait to go again. I won the tickets at the Christmas White Elephant me being a big jerk, I stole a jacket from my brother-in-law, knowing my grandma wanted the jacket and that I would then be able to take the tickets, without worry of losing them to anyone else.

Anyways, I woke up and decide my outfit. It would of been cuter with the pants my best friend would of given me, but I decide I didn't need them and to return them. The outfit was still super cute with the outfit I put on. We basically just hung out all day at the stadium, watched the game, and drank. Before, we went to the stadium we checked out the tailgate and it was pretty cool. I wish I was able to tailgate, it will definitely be something I hope to do next time I go to a game. It looked like it was a ton of fun.

At the game, I had corona and seagrams seven with coke because they didn't have any jack and coke. This drink tasted a little bit different from jack and coke but, not to much. Jack and coke is still better. We also had nachos. The nachos were super good. I ate most of them and totally wanted more, but like all stadium food they were super expensive and the stairs were pretty tiring to get up. So, I didn't want to go get more.

At the end of the game we ran into an old friend from high school. It was so nice to see her again. It's crazy how small the world is. You never realize it until it's right in front of your face. She's been going up to school in Idaho and is only here for Christmas break.

The whole day we saw bike cops and I kept wanting to take pictures with them because they reminded me of 21 jump street. At the end of the night, I was finally able to take a picture with one. It made me so happy. I'm pretty sure the cop thought i was crazy, but whatever, I was happy. All in all it was a fun day and I can't wait to do it again.

I'm not sure if you can see my vans in these pictures, they're the skinny bottom ones. I love them. They're so comfy and they work for everything.

I stick to the traditional team jerseys, and t-shirts for games and what not. Some people like to combine the colors of the team to make a cute outfit, but I don't really know how to do it. If you would like to see a good way to do it, J's Everyday Fashion, shows it here.

Recipes: Day 3

Tonight, I made a teriyaki chicken, I found on The Nourishing Gourmet.  It turned our pretty good actually. It probably would of been better if I followed the direction exactly. I tend to like to make things faster. Plus, I'm new to cooking so sometimes they look skinny enough and they're really not.

Second batch, really brown.
So, it recommends that if you have bigger breasts to slice them in half or pound them. I didn't think my pieces were that big, well not bigger then a 1/4 inch. So, I just pounded them a little. I don't think my parents have a mallet, so, I used my fists. Anyways, when the chicken came out, it was definitely not too fat, but I think I would of liked them thinner. So, I think next time I will cut them in half if they are the same size.

Next, I don't know what fat I would need to heat up in a pan to cook other food, so, I just used vegetable oil. As you can tell, cooking really confuses me. I know nothing about it. So, I pretty much just try it and see if it looks at all how it's supposed to.

I don't have a picture of the first batch i made, but they were pretty light. No dark, black spots on it anywhere. However, the next batch had a ton of black spots on it, it wasn't burnt per say. It just tasted a little different then the original one. I liked the original the best. So, to counteract this a little bit, I would suggest to change the oil each time. This is what i did with the third batch, and it helped a little bit.

I cooked the meal with rice and edamame, to finish off the Japanese feel of chicken teriyaki. Plus, I love edamame. Overall, I think it was a pretty good meal. My step dad told me it was good, and I feel like he doesn't like anything. However, it might also be mean to tell someone you don't like the food they cooked for you.

Old Friends

This post is a little late, it is about Friday. Friday night I worked and then went to visit one of my oldest friends. She was having a "Kick it" as she likes to call it for her birthday. Which, is today. Sunday December 28th. She's only like 2 weeks older then me.

Birthday Girl, I look 12
Anyways, I went over around 10. I just hung out with her and her friends. They played water pong because apparently beer on the floor is the worse thing ever. It was pretty fun. It's never  crazy eventful, but It's always just nice to see her.

I've known her since I was 10. It's crazy. It's been 12 years. We've known each other more then half our lives. I love those kind of friends, no matter what you do, or how far you drift, you always know you have each other. We see each other a lot more regularly now then we have in a long time. Almost every month or two, before we would go years.

We'll go months without talking, but whenever we do it's like nothing changed, like we're 10 years old again. I  can tell her absolutely anything and she won't judge me or get mad at me. It's amazing. As close as we are, we're so different. The thing about old friends, you think if I met them now would I still be friends with them? I would love to say yes, but I don't think you would be in the same places or around the same people. You just most likely wouldn't happen upon each other.

It's like when you meet someone when you're younger and you don't like them, but you run into them a couple years later and you do. As much as we stay the same, we change. We're always changing, it affects every part of our lives. I'm so happy I met her 12 years ago, I love who she is even though now we're so different. Without meeting her at 10 I might be different. We affect people's lives in ways that we don't even know.

Although, it totally felt like Christmas snuck up on me this year, it is finally here. Today, my family woke up, we skyped my sisters that live far away, one lives in Chicago, B, and the other lives in Maryland, A. My sister, that lives near by with the boys, K, couldn't come by because she was with her in laws, but we saw her yesterday and would see her Christmas night at my grandmas.

We then, all opened our presents. B was very anxious to get off of Skype because no one could open her presents since they were with K. I really just wanted to see A's daughter E open her present from me. I got her an Anna outfit, I think she really like it. She just kept saying "That's for E." I can't wait to see her in it.

For Christmas me and my siblings all got a soft-shell jacket from my parents. I also got a black giants tank top which i've been wanting forever. It's always so hot in the summer at games. I probably won't wear it for awhile though, unless I wear it to the gym, which is possible.

After that, I went to my best friend's house to blow dry and straighten my hair, since, apparently we no longer have a blow dryer at my mom's house. So, I went over and hung out for awhile until I had to go to my grandmas. They had lots of snack for me to eat, apples and prosciutto are so good together. It sounds weird, but they're somehow amazing.

Around 2 I went to my grandmas, decorated the tree and waited for everyone to arrive. The games were so much fun. We always do a kids, a gag, and a good white elephant game. The gag one is always just for fun, it can be anything you have just laying around your house, I think one year someone even did toilet paper. This year the good one was bay area sports themed, Giants, Niners, or warriors.

I ended up with tickets to the 49ers game this Sunday. I'm so excited. I've never been to a football game before. My sister got a Kapernick jersey, I'm really hoping she lets me wear it to the game. She wore my sweater before I even got to. So, its only fair, that she let me borrow the jersey, right? My grandma is going to take me shopping to pick out work clothes. I'm super excited, since my internship starts when I get back to school. I'm pretty sure, I'll need business clothes. Apparently it will only be exciting for about the first week to dress up, but I'm hoping it will last longer then that.

Anyways, that was my holiday. Here's my Christmas outfit. I love this dress, I hope I can find somewhere else to wear it too one day.

Sorry, I don't have a better picture of my outfit. the day was hectic. I kept remembering that i needed to take one and then forgetting to do it. It is a peplum dress. i absolutely love it, I wish I had a better picture.

Christmas Eve

Christmas shouldn't be too hectic this year, we usually do both sides of the family in one day, however, this year it was split up. YAY!! less craziness sounds so good to me. Holidays are supposed to be fun, but they usually end up just being crazy busy.

Yesterday, I woke hung out for a bit and then went to my best friend's house to exchange presents and just spend time with her family. Her mom says they're my second family, she always tells people I'm their other daughter. My best friend and I exchanged presents. We both got each other the same bracelet from Kate Spade. This one says "On the Fast Track" on the inside. She also got me a sky blue one for my birthday that says "Head in the Clouds" on the inside.

The kind that attaches magnetically is relatively new to Kate Spade. I used to not be able to wear bangles because they're really hard to get on and off my hands. I might just do it wrong, but it was really hard for me, so, I could never wear them. This kind is basically perfect if you're like me and have silly hands.

Me, Best Friend's Mom, Best Friend
I had lunch at their house, it was delicious. We had home made Trader Joe's pizza for lunch. Her dad put the garlic herb pizza dough on the grill. We took it off put the pesto sauce, mozzarella, and tomatoes on top and then put it back on the grill. It was so delicious. I wish I took a picture because it looked pretty amazing too. Then her mom let me open the present from them. It was a Kate Spade necklace with my initial on it and says "one in a million" on the back.

Me and My Sister
If you can't tell, I like Kate Spade. All my purses are from there. I need a new one because my black one is getting old, I've had it for a year, but I use it when I go anywhere. If I rotated purses it would last longer, which is what I want to do, but I need to buy a new one first. I have a white one, but it always gets so dirty. I also have a blue one, which is actually in pretty good shape, but once I got my black one last Christmas I basically just stopped using it, it doesn't match anything. I'm not big on matching, but at least now no one can hate one me when I don't AKA my best friend.

Me and My cousin
Sorry for the tangent, after that I went straight to my sister's even though the party didn't start until 4 and it was only like 3. It didn't really get started until like 5 or 6, but that's our filipino family. It was really fun to see everyone. The Kris Kringle was fun, I also got both my parents presents from it. I got a throw, some chocolate with alcohol in it, and a blue place setting. I'm really excited about all of it.

I already used the throw it was nice and warm, no one else wanted it, but I was happy to get it. I need more blankets at my apartment. I'm really excited to try the chocolates, I've never tried anything like it before. Blue is my favorite color so.... that's just exciting to have.

I had a special Christmas Eve outfit. It isn't as nice as my Christmas outfit, which, I did on purpose. I however, got really hot and had to change my shirt like an hour into the party.

The tank top had crotchet sleeves and collar. It would be really cute for work of with a cardigan. The circle on the bracelet says partners in crime on it. My best friend got it for me last year for Christmas. I had so much fun. I hope your Christmas Eve was as good as mine.

Recipes: Day 2

So, I didn't post yesterday Monday, because I've been super busy, working and shopping and getting ready for Christmas. I still have to wrap all my presents, I'm really not looking forward to doing that. I also think I've decided I'm going to post in the morning about the day before. So, this post is about Tuesday December 23rd and being posted on Wednesday December 24th.

I woke up and procrastinated wrapping because i have a ton of gifts to wrap, it probably won't even take as long as I think it will, but it just sounds tedious. So... I'll do it tomorrow on the last day possible before Christmas. All day I kept thinking about how it does feel like Christmas yet, that Christmas is just kind of here, it just kind of appeared. For me at least, I feel like I'm just going through the motions of getting ready for Christmas.

Anyways, after I procrastinated, I prepared for dinner because I wouldn't have time to after I got off of work. Today, I made potato soup with french bread, it's apparently a family recipe. It's easy and cheap to make, my step-dad says my great grandma used to make it a lot because she had so many kids. It's really just potato, beef, and tomato sauce.

First you have to cut up the potatoes at about the size of a nickel. Then, you fill up a large pot with half to 3/4 amount water. You boil the potatoes until they are soft. Once the potatoes are soft, you add a pound of meat to the boiling water and potatoes. Once the meat is cooked you add the one can of tomato sauce and stir. For more flavor you can add salt and cheese. Sorry this recipe is not precise, but my family just does it by looking at it.

I know this sounds really boring, but it is actually pretty good. It also only takes about 30 minutes to cook, which is super nice since I got home at like 7. I think I added too much water to it though, I put in closer to 3/4 of water. It is either that or I liked it a lot better when I was little. I didn't post a picture because the one I took made it look absolutely disgusting. If you google potato soup, it comes up with things that look a lot like clam chowder, but mine definitely doesn't look anything like that.

After, that my family and I went shopping for Christmas outfits. I already had one, but this year we're celebrating with one family on Christmas Eve and the other side on Christmas. So, I needed two outfits this year. My outfit Christmas day is going to be nicer though I'm pretty sure. I haven't finalized my outfit yet for tomorrow though. I just  can't figure out what to wear with my top to make the outfit dressier. Hopefully I'll figure it out tomorrow. I'll let you know tomorrow how it all goes.

A little tidbit on Monday, I hung out with my sister and her sons. We just played and decorated a little for Christmas, she's having the Christmas Eve party at her house. It sounds stressful, I'm so happy I don't have to do that stuff yet. She does want to plan my wedding some day though, so, hopefully it isn't too stressful though because then my fictions wedding planning will be horrible for her.

Recipes: Day 1

Yesterday was supposed to be my last outfit of the day post, the two week are up. It's time to start my food challenge. Well, recipes, I'm going to be posting about recipes the next two weeks. I'm going to attempt to cook them and tell you how they go. It won't be everyday, especially with Christmas and new years coming up, but it will be most days hopefully. I am working kind of a lot at Old Navy. So, I hope my family likes having dinner a little late.

horrible picture sorry
Tonight we had chicken adobo. It's a filipino dish. It wasn't homemade though, I should try that one day. It's really good, and I'm pretty sure its a crock pot recipe. Along with that, I made rice and vegetables, this was a typically meal for me when i was little. Not homemade, it is pretty simple. I used 4 chicken breasts for the 5 of us.

The adobe mix I used is Momma Best's, I had to use two packages with this much chicken. The instructions say to make it with 1 cup of water per mix. However, it wasn't covering all the chicken and the old adobo mix my mom used to use said to use 2 cups of water per package, so, that's what I tried. We also only had 2 adobo mix packages so... I just tried it, hoping it would work. So then you just put the chicken in the pot and cook it for at least 30 minutes and then its ready to eat.

The food was good, but I think it could of been better. If I used dark meat like my mom normally does, then I think it would of soaked in the flavor better. The white meat is also more likely to dry out when making adobo, so, it is in general supposedly better to use dark meat. Keep in mind though, I like dark meat better then white meat in general meaning, I may be a little biased. I also think, that 2 cups instead of 1 had enough flavor, it was all over the chicken. I think with only 1 cup the sauce would of been too dense, but you may want to try it with 1 cup for yourself the first time. So, that was my meal for the day, sorry for the horrible pictures, I cannot plate food well.

Restaurant: My Sushi

No Outfit of the day today, it was just what i wore to work, which was boring because it was a work shirt. I would show the outfit I wore out to dinner tonight at Chili's, but it may be similar to what i'm wearing on Christmas/ Chrismas Eve. So, I'll wait to show that later.

Anyways, last night I went to My Sushi, it is a restaurant pretty close to my house. I go there quite frequently, for how often I am home. The food is pretty good and decently priced. When you spend 30 dollars you get a free roll and more if you spend 40 or 50 dollars. As well, with a roll over 8 dollars you get soup and salad.

I don't know about you but I love miso soup. So, it is definitely a plus for me. We got the zebra roll and the monster roll. The zebra roll is fresh yellowtail, salmon, avocado, and fresh salmon on top. The monster roll is salmon, albacore, avocado/fresh tuna, and seaweed salad. I really liked them both. I liked the monster roll better because of the seaweed salad on top, it added a little kick to it. Note: I feel like kick might mean spice, but in this case it doesn't, it simply means flavor.

We also got sapporo and hot sake. We made sake bombs, he wouldn't let me bang the table though, I was very disappointed. My friend used to work at a sushi restaurant, so he said doing that was obnoxious. I think its fun, but whatever. I'm not usually a big fan of beer, but it actually wasn't that bad. I think I'm finally getting acquired to the taste of beer, but if I drink beer, it is usually corona.

After we drank sake bombs, he  thought it would be less work to just leave the shot glass in the cup and drink it that way. I took mine out, I guess it was a little work, but better then leaving the shot glass in the whole time, he left his in the cup the whole time. I thought it was kind of ridiculous.

I wish I had pictures of it all, but I'm new to this whole blog thing and I'm not exactly sure exactly what I'm posting until I go to write it. I really am trying to get better at taking pictures and their quality.

Outfit of the Day: Day 10

Sorry, this post is so late. I meant to take a picture of my outfit that I wore to get a drink, which is.... way cuter then the outfit I wore today. This outfit I don't even know if it matches. This was basically an it's pouring rain no one is going to see my shirt outfit because the outfit looks fine with my black sweater. The outfit I wore to drinks was much cuter and surprisingly warm. I'm really upset I didn't get a picture.

Anyways, I took my final, went to work and drove home. This outfit was comfy enough for it, these jeans are a legging jean, so, they're a little tighter then I would like them every once in awhile. It's one of those if you sit the wrong way it's a little annoying. These jeans are those type of jeans.

They fit really tight which makes them look really cute with jeans. My friend always says my jeans are too loose to wear with jeans. I really don't think its that big of a deal because I chose comfort over looking cute, but just thought I would throw it out there.

Tank Top: Old Navy, Recent
Sweatshirt: Present, 2 years ago
Jeans: Gap, Recent
Boots: Cathy Jean, 3 years ago

I definitely plan on bringing my rain boots back up to davis in the winter, they're definitely a necessity. I will get over the whole fact that they are not super cute.

This Giants sweater I realized may not be as warm as my navy UC Davis sweater, but it might have also just been significantly colder today. I am not exactly sure because I'm not big on checking the weather. I prefer to use my window as a weather predictor, the only reason I knew it was pouring this morning was because it woke me up.

I also wore my Blue Marmot rain jacket all day because of the rain. I did not include it in the outfit of the day because as soon as I made it inside I took it off. I just wore it so, i would not get wet. The rain today was a serious pain and made it summer cold. Sorry this outfit isn't really cute, but I really do think its ok, to dress for weather and not cuteness sometimes.

Clothing Stealers

Now that me and my sisters have all stopped growing, we can all trade and share clothes. It's wonderful when you need an outfit to wear for a family picture or to a special event. However, it's not always great because sometimes your clothes go missing for months or they wear your brand new clothes.
Me and my siblings
Recently, I let my little sister borrow my shirt for our Christmas card picture. It was a brand new shirt and I was kind of reluctant to let her wear it, but for the picture I let her. She then went and wore it the next day. I wouldn't have cared as much if I had gotten to wear the shirt already, but I haven't. So, I was pretty upset, who doesn't like to be the first one to wear their brand new clothes?

This same sister has also told me she goes into my room when I'm not home to see if I left any cardigans she could wear. She never calls, never asks, just goes into my room to see if I left any behind.

Another Christmas story, but this one is funny. One of my sisters was home visiting for Christmas, and I let her borrow my booties to wear with her outfit. She jokingly said to me "I'm just going to take these home with me." I knew she was joking, but when she left, I made sure she didn't take them with her. I love those shoes, I wear them all the time with dresses and skirts, they make anything look a little more fancy.

For a different family picture because all my family ever does is take family pictures one of my sister borrowed my dress. She's the second one from the left, she added a vest over the top to make it appropriate for the picture. I don't really like me in that picture, but it's apparently the only one I have of us that day. To the right is a picture of me in the dress, when we all went out for my cousin's birthday. I also should of put my hand higher up on my waist in this picture, but whatever, besides that the picture is perfectly fine.

Basically, sisters borrow clothes, they don't always fit us exactly the same, but that's part of the fun. It's the same clothes, but we style them differently, to make them fit us. The main issue here is that if my little sister asked to borrow my clothes I might let her. Well, I might not because I might be afraid she'd lose it or never get it back. So, maybe only for special occasions at first.

Granted, I can't blame her. Over the summer I borrowed her belt to wear out and it went missing. It somehow was outside on the porch for like a week or two. I felt really bad, I totally though i lost it, but I was really happy we found it. So, we're all clothing stealers, to remedy this, we just have to make sure to give the clothes back after we wear them.

Outfit of the Day: Day 9

My car worked perfectly when I went to go turn it on today. I was so happy, I mean it was expected since, I didn't leave my lights on again, but still it made me smile. Anyways, my day was once again pretty boring, I just studied and went to work. Here's my outfit. I've finally gotten a chance to wear my jean-sweater jacket.
My Outfit Today

I originally wasn't sure if I was going to buy this jacket because it was like $30 with my discount, but my manager told me I totally needed to buy it. So... I did. I'm just happy I finally got a chance to wear it.

Jacket: Old Navy, Recent
Shirt: American Eagle, Recent
Pants: American Eagle, 2 years ago
Shoes: Converse, 3 years ago

It is really easy to make this outfit look better for the summer. I have a pair of white sandals that go really cute with this shirt and somehow totally liven it up for the fall weather. Then in the summer I just throw on a pair of black shorts instead of black pants. All pretty basic and simple, but I think its something that anyone can do.

Summer Outfit
This is an example of my summer look in this shirt. These are my favorite sandals. I wish you could see them better. That next to me is my very handsome nephew, he does Judo.

Shorts: Tillys, Recent
Sandals: Belk, 1 year ago

You can't tell in this picture, but the shorts are crocheted on the side, they're backed behind that though. So, the shorts are not see-through. They're my new favorite black shorts. Yes, somehow I own two pairs of black shorts. Sadly, in California we do not have any Belk stores because I'm really looking for new black sandals. These are super comfy and I think adorable. So, if I could I would try Belk again.

Random fact, I totally love that you can see my dyed hair in the top picture. I only did the under layer. It's totally growing out, but you can't even tell, its amazing. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it redone soon.

Outfit of the Day: Day 8

What I Wore
It was a day of studying and car trouble. I went out to my car to get my outfit out of my car. Yes, I still had my clothes in my car from this weekend. I had too much stuff to take it all out in one trip. I hate walking back and forth from the car and it was raining. Well, when I went out to the car, I realized I had left my car lights on, so... my battery died. I still haven't signed up for triple A yet because I'm forgetful, but luckily my apartment complex has one and was able to jump my car for me. It would of been a fortune to get someone out here if they didn't.

Today, I thought I'd wear some jeans I don't think I've worn in a year. Yes, a year. They're colorful jeans and I always feel so self conscious in them. I just don't really know what to pair them with, I mostly own dark colors, it  cuts down my choices a lot. Today, I paired it with a black tank top and a grey cardigan. I would have preferred to wear my long sleeve black v-neck shirt, but I can't find it, with my purple scarf. I thought about still wearing it, but it doesn't match exactly and I didn't really like it. That's another issue with colored clothing, sometimes it has to be super matchy matchy to look good, which can be really hard to find.

The top picture is what I wore today. The picture on the left is one with the scarf. The one on the right is one with a jean sweater jacket. Which is what i originally planned on wearing.

I didn't even realize how much of this stuff was from Old Navy. I originally tried this outfit with the Jacket, but I couldn't decide if I liked it. Now, looking back at it i kinda wish I wore it. I think it was just a little too out of the box for me to try today. I dunno, what do you guys think of it with the jean jacket, I think I was mostly worried because its not all the jean material.

I just bought a pair of black boots, that i think this outfit would look really cute with. If you wanted to dress these jeans up a bit I think you could also throw on a heel, for me it would be my go to black booties, you might have to change the shirt though or add a necklace. I'm really looking forward to Christmas because I'm hoping that I got some necklaces, it was on my christmas list. I will also hopefully be getting tons of new work clothes which sounds super exciting, especially with my internship starting in January.

Lastly, sorry for the funny faces, I wasn't originally planning on posting these pictures. However, as i started writing, I realized it would fit right in. I hope you guys liked this outfit.

I've been drilling in the Marine Corps for 2 years now. So, this would be my 7th quarter doing it while being in the Marines. Yes, somehow I've never had drill and finals fall in the same week. Drill is tiring because you have no time to relax, you have no weekend. You go straight from school to drill and then back to school.
However, this weekend was worse because I had a mountain of studying to do for my final that was on Monday. He didn't give any study guide, so, we basically had to study everything and hope for the best. Cross your fingers with me and hope I did good. I think I did good in case you're wondering. End Rant.

There are ways to change your drill dates, but then you have to make them up during the week. I don't know my schedule yet for when I'm at Old Navy over Christmas break, so, rescheduling it would of been just as hectic as going now and it would of just been me and the staff that works there everyday, plus I think they show up everyday at like 6. That sounds tiring.

Basically, it was hard to find the time to study for my finals because I was busy all day. Then I had to go to sleep early because we have to get up at like 6. Which would explain why I'm super tired today. I felt way to tired to drive to Davis yesterday. I've also been way to tired to study for my final this afternoon, I fell asleep at like noon studying, granted it was only for 15 minutes, but still.

Bootcamp Graduation
Studying for finals Sunday and Monday night was hard because I was still ridiculously tired from the weekend. However, it needed to be done. Sorry its taking so long for me to get to the point, it probably has to do with the fact that I'm still tired and drill ended two days ago. The Marine Corps, as much as I love it, it takes away from the life you live everyday, which, can be frustrating. Since, I spent all weekend busy, I've been really tired which mad it hard to study for my finals.

The Marine Corps keeps you from being able to do things that are important to your civilian life. For the two to five days a month that you are there you are expected to drop everything and make that your life. Which, is always possible because after those days, you go back to the life you live everyday, your family, your job, everything you normally do. So, if they land on the wrong two days, it can hurt you for hopefully no more then a week, the first drill of the quarter is usually when I end up behind in my readings for class and then I just never catch up. I'm glad I can call my self a Marine just sometimes it makes life a little bit harder and that's not always fun.

Outfit of the Day: Day 7

Today was a pretty boring day, just spent all morning studying. This afternoon I made sure to relax to prepare for all the studying to be done for my last final on Friday. I am also totally hoping to get a drink later. I'll let you know all about the place I go to if I do. My friends say there is no where to go on a Tuesday, but you can go anywhere just for drinks.

Anyways, this morning I got dressed rather quickly for a cram session before the final. Which, I think actually helped a lot, cross your fingers for me. Here's the outfit:

Shirt: Tillys, recent, 4 months ago
Pants: PacSun, 4 years ago
Sweatshirt: UC Davis 4 years ago
Shoes: Converse, 3 years?

I recently got this shirt and I'm in love with it. The word on the shirt is LONDON. However, it does show a little more stomach then I originally realized. I am a little sad no one got to see it today because of the winter weather. Winter weather is the worst because half the clothes you wear no one even gets to see. It's so frustrating. Like, why even bother to look cute. I say this because I was just going to wear the shirt and pants until my roommate totally pointed out that it's only 50 degrees outside. I think this outfit would look cute with my black cardigan, but its been missing for awhile now and it might not be warm enough for it. End rant.

I've had these pants for a long time and my mom absolutely hated it when I got them. However, they were only 10 dollars and I've had them for 4 years. So, I think they're a win. They are also super comfy, for jeans, but the holes are getting a little bigger then I like. It's really hard to find good ripped jeans because I feel like they have to be in the right spot which is different for everyone. I did find some a couple weeks ago, but i have worn them yet, they're a little darker in color. So, we'll see how those go.

I was really upset I had to put this sweatshirt on. I don't wear it that much because it is more form fitting, I generally like my sweaters to be nice, loose and comfy. It also isn't as warm as my other sweaters. I was still a little cold in it while walking to campus.

I really have no idea when I got these converse. I've kind of always had a pair since my junior year in high school. They're my go to i need shoes to put on my feet shoe. I just ordered a new pair, but i haven't gotten them yet. They're gonna be shiny and white. It's gonna be weird.

Outfit of the Day: Day 6

We're currently in the middle of Finals week. So, today was a lazy day, it didn't help that its stilly cloudy and rainy. So, there was completely no point in getting dressed this morning. Basically, I just threw on some comfy clothes and called it a day. Perfect lazy comfy day outfit and you can totally go to the gym if you change your mind about being lazy. I contemplated it, but I'm super sore from yesterday's workout for some reason. It didn't even seem that hard in the moment.

I was just sitting and studying all day for my Final this afternoon and then I started studying for my final tomorrow, well attempting to study. Making comfy clothes the best choice, sorry for the boring rant, but here's my outfit for the day.
Shirt: Old Navy, 3 years ago
Workout Capris: Old Navy, 3 months ago
Nike Tennis Shoes: Big Foot Locker, 3 years ago

This shirt is just a free shirt I got from work (I work at Old Navy). It's nothing special, they're nice and comfy and good for going to the gym in. I mostly wear it for the gym and work. These workout capris are nice and comfy, but they're a little too loose, most noticeably around the knees. I can mostly tell the difference because I have another pair from Old Navy that is a year old that I think fits a lot better. They're the same size, so, they must just make them different now.

These tennis shoes are 3 years old, but I barely wear them. I bought them write before I went to bootcamp thinking I would wear them to work out in. They were still brand new when I got home 9 months later. When I got back I had another new pair I bought when in North Carolina to replace the pair the Marine Corps gave me. Basically, these shoes are not 3 years old in wear and tear because I own lots of tennis shoes. I have 3 pairs, I think the most recent i bought about a year ago.

I need to find a better way to take my pictures without the help of someone else. I'm not totally ready for hella people to know about my blog. I'm still a little embarrassed because I don't know if it's any good.

Family Pictures

Last weekend, my family went and took pictures for Christmas. Sadly, it's only with my parents and 2 of my siblings. The other 3 have families or live away from home now. Anyways, family Pictures in my family are always an exciting time. There are so many of us and we can never agree on what to wear, and we never all like the same picture. Basically, large families make family pictures very hard, even for the photographer. They have a hard time finding unique poses for us to do.

You would think since, it was just the five of us the picture would be easier to take. However, if possible it was actually harder to take. My brother and sister have a ton of activities and couldn't do it one day. I couldn't do it this weekend because I'll be busy with Marine stuff. So, once we finally found a day we could do it, we realized if we did it outside we would need someone to take the picture for us. Turns out my older sister who could take the picture was busy that day. So, my family, being my family, we had to ask her to squeeze in 10 minutes to go downtown to take our picture.

Which of course was in 30 minutes and my brother wasn't even awake and my little sister had nothing "Christmas" colored to wear. She was so adamant about it she almost wore a black and white shirt IN A CHRISTMAS PICTURE. So, I let her borrow my brand new shirt for the picture. More on that in a later post.

We finally get everyone dressed and make it downtown and THERE'S NO TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE!!! My sister goes "I told you the christmas tree this year was ugly." So, we're debating where to take this picture because my sister is already on her way to meet us downtown and she's in a rush, meaning we're stuck with this location and we need to pick a spot here. We quickly decide on the fountain.

So, we start to pose for the pictures and my brother who never wants to take pictures anyways, has his hat on. This whole big thing happens because he's wearing his hat. We get him to take off his hat and then in all the pictures he just looks like a big brat. I hope you enjoy my family picture and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sweater: American Eagle, New
Skirt: Old Navy, New
Stockings: old
Boots: Clarks, 3 years ago

I really like this outfit in theory, but in these pictures. I just really don't like how any of it turned out. I don't think I'll be wearing this again. I wish it turned out better because it was amazing in my head.

Marine Corps Workouts

Hey guys! No Outfit of the Day today. I planned on taking a picture of my Physical Training (PT) uniform. However, i post a picture of the PT uniform that I took awhile ago. I couldn't take one because I had to rush out of my room this morning to look for my cover for my cammies. I was about to go back to my room, but somehow between the room and the car I lost my hotel room key. Which, is exactly why I brought all my stuff with me downstairs.

Summer 2013
So, this is the most basic workout ever, but this is the one we did this morning. It is nice, simple, and easy. I would also probably add a set of ab work outs too. I love doing abs. Which, if I ever get around to working out regularly you will see. I do abs a lot and its just super easy, but you can feel it pretty quickly.

We ran about 2 or 3 miles at a moderate rate, everyone else thought it was hella slow, but it was a good pace for me. I'm not exactly sure how long or anything it took because I don't currently have a watch. I lost mine a while ago and it still hasn't turned up. Anyways, then we did lunges for about 50 yards and 10 pull ups. Like, I said, nothing ridiculously hard, but its a nice easy workout that will help with our Physical Fitness Test (PFT). I would add some ab workouts because that helps with the sit ups part of the PFT.

This is one of the easier workouts I've done with the Marines. In the summer of 2013, we ran like 5 miles a day and did circuit stuff as well. It was horrible, even at the end of the 2 months, I was still always ridiculously exhausted after, but I was finally feeling a little better after the runs. Granted, I was in really good shape and wish I could get back there. However, it is really hard on my own.

Outfit of the Day: Day 5

So... I totally didn't take a picture this morning when I was in my full on heffalump outfit. I meant to, and then I just decided I would later. Then tonight once I realized I didn't take my picture yet i was already changed and didn't want to put it back on to take my picture. My laziness was just already around today in my outfits.

I'm totally still wearing my boots which I feel horrible about because I'm hella lazy and didn't want to go back downstairs to get the shoes I forgot to bring up again. Sorry that my outfits are absolutely horrible lately. Tomorrow, they will probably just be workout clothes for my drive home.

Shirt: Tilly's, 3 years ago
Jeans: Levi's, 3 years ago
Boots: Cathy Jean 4 years ago.

Sorry, that i suck at life and this outfit and picture are horrible. They will be better soon I think. I'm pretty sure. The lighting in this hotel room is absolutely horrible.

Packing for me is the absolute worst, I never know what to bring, and I never know exactly what i'm going to do. So, I kind of have to pack for everything. One would think packing for drill would be easy because I'm barely in the clothes that I get to actually pick out and wear. So, why does it matter anyways what I wear. It really doesn't I barely ever take into account what I'm bringing for drill.

Year and a Half ago
I usually, just throw an assortment of clothes and shoes and call it a day. Mostly, just spending my time making sure I have everything I need for the Marine Corps. All of my uniforms and gear. The 5 million different types of socks and covers we have and the million tiny pieces that go along with our uniforms.

So, considering this, when I went to pick my clothes i saw this gray shirt that I hadn't worn in a while and I was really excited to wear it. i thought it would just go perfect with my boots. However, when i went to grab it I realized it was not the amazing shirt that I wanted to wear and it made me sad, made me rethink the whole just throwing clothes into a bag thing. Then, it totally made me wonder where this shirt is. So, I will definitely have to look for it when I get home because I love that shirt.

However, despite the fact that I clearly don't care to really pack because I don't care how cute I look in front of these people, packing is still hard. It is hard not because I did not know what I wanted to wear because this shirt falls into the perfectly boring shirt category that I generally hold for drill unless I hope we go out at night look. It is hard because we can never know exactly what we want to wear, even if we know our schedule. We change our minds, we forget about clothes we own, you don't feel cute in it  that day, there are a million in one reasons. Basically, packing will never be easy, it is horrible and i think we may just have to deal with.

Outfit of the Day: Day 4

Today, I had drill. So... i mostly wore what I like to call my heffalump outfit. Which is my woodland camouflage uniform for the Marine Corps. It makes me feel chubby because it is too big. I have had multiple people tell me that it is too big and that they thought I was fat before they saw me in "civilian attire"as they call it in the military. I keep meaning to get a smaller size like I have for my desert camouflage, but whenever I'm on base its summer time and I forget because we're in deserts not woodlands. My heffalump outfit is much more noticeable with my blouse on, I think I'll take my picture for tomorrow in it.

By the way a heffalump is a fictional type of elephant from Winnie the Pooh. The elephant is very cute and adorable I recently discovered. So, I do not know why I associate him with me being chubby in uniform. Just ever since i realized I looked that way, that's what I've referred to myself as in it. It is probably because elephants are simply big animals. I really have no idea, I didn't even know a heffalump was an elephant until recently, I just knew that I thought they were big. I loved Winnie the Pooh when i was little, so, that is clearly how i knew of a heffalump.

However, after drill for about an hour or so, I did get to wear civilian attire. It's a pretty basic simple outfit. I never, like to wear anything to cute, who do I have to impress here. haha. Occasionally, we do go out after drill, but I'm busy this weekend studying for finals, which is no fun at all. Anyways, here is my pretty boring outfit.

Red V-Neck Shirt: Tillys, 2 years ago
Jeans: American Eagle, 2 years ago
Gray Waterfall Cardigan: 1 year ago
Boots: Cathy Jean, 4 years ago

I was originally going to wear my boots again today, but by the time I got to my room I already walked back downstairs once because my room key would not work to get in. So, i was too lazy to go back downstairs and get my converse to change. Although, you cannot see it because this picture is absolutely atrocious, which i'm terribly sorry about. However, the boots probably actually look better with the outfit since it is a long cardigan. Which, to me just yells winter and boots.

Again, sorry for the picture, the one in the mirror in my room wouldn't catch it all and by the time the guys could of taken the picture I was starving. However, I definitely think it is progress on my whole taking better pictures thing. Since, I thought of asking someone else to take the picture. My mom always, says "The first step in going to the gym is getting dressed, so, if you did that then you attempted." I think you're supposed to add a step everyday or every time you try to go though. I'm not really sure, I always just focus on that part. Basically, I will continue to try to take steps to take better pictures for you guys. We'll see how it goes.

During college we always here about Internships, how they're important to finding a job after college. They can help you gain experience and possibly make connections. It also makes you look better on a resume which is the most important part. However, depending on your major, sometimes it is hard to find an internship that pays, therefore, making it harder for one to get an internship.

I'm in my senior year at UC Davis and I'm just now about to start my first internship in January. Not because I did not want one or look for one, but because as a political science major it is hard to find a paying internship, even still this internship does not pay. This being my first internship is partially my own fault, I needed a job that paid over an internship because I needed a job to pay for books, food, and school in general. Many of the internships also require driving to Sac. So, before I had a car there was very little opportunity it which internships I could do.

However, once I did have my car, I did not see how it was possible to set my schedule so, I could work and intern. it also helps, that this year I have no classes on Friday's making the hour commitment that they ask for during the week more doable. The office is only open during the day making one unable to work after 5. In making my schedule over the weekend to accommodate both my job and my internship, I realized that it is simply a matter of scheduling and accepting hour and classes you might not have otherwise taken.

To add another job into my schedule was hard and surprisingly doesn't require me to wake up at 8 everyday. It almost did and then I found a class that would fit perfectly in my schedule, allowing me to go to my internship, and then class, and then go to work. it will be a long busy day, but days will be worth it because the internship will allow me to interact and work with people that are directly in politics, the field I wish to work in.

So... basically, i guess this is me ranting about how, an internship is important to me now and should of been important sooner because it gives you many opportunities and experiences you would not receive otherwise. However, i do understand the struggle to work and find and internship when both involve working in the afternoons making it hard to schedule four, four unit classes in the morning and allowing time for said internship. Once you yourself realize the importance of an internship it will allow you to do what you feel is necessary to acquire an internship.

P.S. Sorry this looks super boring without any pictures, i don't have any at the job or in my business clothes, which I'm really excited to wear. I cannot wait to start in January.

Outfit of the Day: Day 3

Today, was rainy and foggy, and just plain depressing, but lucky for me, I have a bright blue rain jacket that brightens my rainy days. The rain, totally made me rethink the whole not wearing my rain boots because they're ugly thing though. My boots are nice and comfy, and protect my feet mostly from the rain. However, when I take them off i do realize the socks on my big toes are kind of wet. So, here's my rainy day outfit.

Thermal: Old Navy, 4 years ago
Pants: Levis, 3 years ago
Boots: Cathy Jean, 4 years ago
Rain Jacket: Marmot, 2 years ago
Sweatshirt: UC Davis, 3 years ago

Funny story, I actually got these pants after my bootcamp graduation on Parris Island, at the marine corps exchange. My mom did bring me clothes to change into, but she brought pants that were from middle school and no longer fit. It was really annoying at the time, now I just find it kind of funny. My rain jacket was a christmas gift, so, I'm not exactly sure where they are from.

I bought this sweatshirt almost exactly 3 years ago today right before I shipped out to bootcamp. I knew I would go back to Davis after I got home, but it was a little piece of insurance before I left and I needed one. I only had a girly type sweater and I barely ever wore it. This one is nice and comfy.

I know I've only been writing these for 3 days, but they already have me using more of my wardrobe. Which, I definitely need to do because I own like 6 pairs of pants and only wear like 3 of them. I was originally going to wear the pants I wore on Monday today, until I realized I would be showing everyone them again.

Granted, I'm in San Jose for the weekend and only packed 3 pairs of pants, 2 of them being pants I already wore this week. Well, technically I only packed two because I was wearing one of them. As, well, I will be in my digital cammies most of the weekend anyways, so, its not that big of a deal. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my post and my ranting.

Outfit of the Day: Day 2

Due, to the big storm coming, this morning I immediately dressed for the rain, which meant I really didn't care that much about my outfit because it would be covered by a sweater. However, after talking to my roommate, I realized it wasn't going to rain and it might just be kinda windy. So, I changed. I'll give more information on my rainy day outfit tomorrow, when it really is hella raining.

My sisters love to my point out my love of cardigans, even though I'm trying to wear less of them. So, this is probably the first of many cardigans you will see. I hope you like it.

Cardigan: Gap, 2 years ago
Tank Top: American Eagle, 2 years ago
Pants: American Eagle, 2 years ago
Boots: Cathy Jean, 4 years ago

The Cardigan has black elbow pads, which I love. The tank top does show a little stomach and there is a cut out in the back. I'm sure you will see more of it later. I love this shirt. Actually I love everything I'm wearing in this picture.

I didn't change my boots after realizing it was raining because I'm lazy, but it goes great with this outfit so, its perfect. Also, my rain boots are currently at my parents house and I really don't like them.

P.S. Sorry for the bad picture, I meant to take another one, but I forgot. I'm really hoping I'll get better at the picture thing.

Outfit of the Day: Day 1

Since, I'm just starting my blog, I'm still trying to figure out its focus. So, I'm sorry if it feels a little scatter brained. I feel like that is kind of me in general, but to help me find its focus and what I like to write about I've decided to try some different things. So, for the next two weeks. I'm going to share with you my Outfit of the day. It's not going to be anything to fancy or flashy, but it will be nice simple outfits that i think anyone can do. Which, describes me and my outfits even though I am trying to make them cuter when I need to dress up.

So, here's today's outfit. Its nice and comfy and winter cute. Sorry, if this isn't a very good picture. I don't have the whole picture thing down. Maybe by the end of these two weeks I will. As you will probably learn from these posts, I practically live in American Eagle clothing. Just thought, I'd mention that. Since,

Top: American Eagle Sweater, 1 year ago
Pants: American Eagle, 1 year ago
Shoes: Cathy Jean Boots, 4 years ago

Buyer's Remorse

Like the stereotypical girl, I love to buy things. I don't always love to shop, especially when I'm looking for something specific, because I can never find what I want. However, sometimes when you go shopping you find that you want everything. So... you buy it all because you look super cute in it and you should totally keep it. That's currently been my life for the past two weeks.
Black Back Zip Up American Eagle Sweater
AE website

I needed some sweaters so i bought some and then some skirts from American Eagle. As well as buying a bunch of clothes from Old Navy too. Granted, like half of them were for my sister for her Christmas present, the price was too good to pass up, usually I like to get their presents from the Gap at least. However, despite that, I still spend a ton of money on Clothes that weekend.

However, now that I bought it all, I'm a little weary of if i should keep it all. Do, I really need two new sweaters? Do I really need this new skirt, will I wear it more then for Christmas? I sadly asked this about everything that I bought. Not because I didn't like them, but because off times buying new clothes is more about need then want. I have enough clothes to wear everyday, so, i don't necessarily need new ones, but I want new ones.

So... how can we attempt to stop buyer's remorse? It's easy, if we truly loved an item we would wear it within a month or two of buying it, if you do not, simply return it. However, there is another issue that occurs. It's not that I don't love the item and that I wouldn't wear it. I chose to not wear it because I feel bad for spending the money on it and can't justify it. So, what do I do now? Should I wear the clothes because I like it or should I return it because I feel bad even though I really want it.

In this situation you should ask yourself two questions: 1. Do I feel bad because I do not have the money to buy the clothes or 2. Do I feel bad because I feel like I spent more on the clothes then I should have. If it is situation 1 you may want to return the clothes if you truly do not need them. However, if it is situation 2. and you really do like them, you should keep them and treat yourself for once.

The Studying Cycle

It's senior year at UC Davis. By now I should be a pro at studying, but I was never good at studying. So... now that my time here is coming to a close. I think its time I actually study. lol. The crazy thing is, I finally consciously realize why I say this at the beginning of every quarter and it never happens. Want to know why??

It's because no matter how much you read, no matter what you do, you always feel behind. Or at least I do. So... about this time every quarter, a week or two before midterms I just stop caring because I feel like I'm never going to catch up. This feeling continues to be true because no matter how much I read, no matter how much more I've been reading this quarter then every other. I'm still just as far behind as I always have been.

So... the question is... do I kill myself to catch up for once and see if it works or do i stop trying like always? I'm think I'm going to continue to try up until midterms and then, if that doesn't work, i'll just give up. Midterms get in the way too because you're like do I do the reading I never had a chance to do or do i go off of the material I know is going to be on the test? Midterms and tests, everything about college is all about managing your time and priorities, which class do I need to study more for. Which book is more important. Do I want to have al life and see people or do i want to be a hermit.

All of these things are things that we need to decide and that get infinitely worse when finals come up. The whole issue that we're on the quarter system makes everything worse as well because sometimes you have to cram a semester load of work into 10 weeks instead of 18. Luckily for me, that isn't really an issue political science majors have. Basically, this post in a way is a way for me to procrastinate even more on my reading, but to make myself feel better, I'm saying its for you guys, so you know you're not alone in this never ending school cycle. That school work will just never be caught up no matter how hard you try.

Starting to workout is always hard, at least for me it is. It is all about a schedule for me, and i'm 10 times more likely to do it if I do it everyday. Since the Marine Corps ball is in a couple weeks, two weeks ago I decide I was gonna hit the gym and be toned. So... I looked over the web and found the perfect workout, a toning challenge for the 4 weeks. It was just long enough before ball to start and i wouldn't be sore by the time ball came. Here's the workout if you want to try it.
I'm on week 3. During week 1 I didn't notice there was actually a cardio workout that needed to be done until like the end of the week, so... i only did that once. whoops. On week 2 I did cardio one day and the circuit the next, which may have not been the best option because by the end of the week I was absolutely dead and didn't even want to think about working out. Therefore, i skipped one workout for each and took the last two days of the week off. My thighs were completely and totally killing me.

A workout during week one.
So when Monday rolled around and week three came out. I opened up the website to start my workout and simply just stared. It wanted me to add even more workouts to my circuit, I couldn't believe it. Since, I died last week doing a workout each day, I figured maybe it would be better if I did  cardio and circuit in one day, taking every other day off. But.. that thought continued to make me feel absolutely overwhelmed. So... I just didn't even do anything that day, which is probably even worse then doing half the workout.

Not working out was extremely easy Monday since I already took two days off which, goes back to my whole theory that i need to work out everyday in order to continue to work out, or at least be on some sort of schedule. Not working out two days in a row, for me... is not a schedule. Working out every other day, now that can be a schedule.

So... Tuesday morning came and I decide i had to workout, i was tired, I didn't want to do anything, but I had to do my workout. I started my workout determined I would do the circuit now and the cardio later after class. Well... I got through half my circuit, it wasn't even that hard, but I simply wasn't feeling it, but I pushed through. Sadly though, i never got around to doing my cardio workout... because I already worked out that day and convinced myself I could only do the circuit today and still do all my workout this week, I just have to only have the one rest day, Monday, the one I already took.

Today is Wednesday... and I'm determined to workout, or at least do something for my workout. My mom always says the first step is getting dressed. Well... step 1 is done. On to step 2: which is the circuit workout, but that's not until about 7. I'll keep you updated. I hope you're a lot better at working out then me and if not, then maybe we can motivate each other. Talk to you guys soon.

Starting a Blog

This is me not writing.
Starting a blog is trying something new and its hard. With all new things, at first you're really excited and you can't stop thinking about it. You want to post constantly and everything you write sounds amazing. However, after that initial happy honeymoon period you sit down and try to write again. However, all you can think is, is this dumb? this sounds horrible, i can't write about this and so on.

So you stop writing because nothing sounds just right, so, its no longer exciting, its simply just work. Something you feel like you're forced to do and getting no benefit from. At least with homework you get you get graded for you effort, now you're just writing for a blog no one knows about. That no one will probably be interested in. So, you just stop. You stop writing because you think its stupid.

But then a week goes by and you feel bad that you stopped. You feel bad because you wanted this to work, you wanted to be able to continue to write. You feel like you let people down you aren't even reading your blog, but ultimately you let yourself down because you couldn't stick with it. However, you still can't think of what to write about so, you just continue to not write and continue to feel that way.

However, another week goes by and you still can't think of anything to write about so, you don't. Then, when you least expect it something comes to you to write about and you feel the need to write about it right then. So, you do, but as you get to the end you think well what if this is just like before, what if i just stop writing again. So, you question you question continuing to write at all.

Like everything that is worth doing you just have to keep trying to see if it will change. For some reason this is reminding me of coming over an addiction, how it does not always work the first time. Changing in life is always hard. To do something new it is a change, so, to change you must keep trying, it doesn't always work the first time. So, we have to keep trying, even if we're worried the same thing will occur again, if we don't then we'll never change.

Salmon B.L.T.

On Tuesday I went out to a late lunch with my friend with the intention of trying something new. I rarely try new food or something that strays from the norm of what I like. I always get a hamburger, steak or a salad. These are my three go to things on any menu. I was craving fish, which I have been a lot lately. I had it twice in the last week yet  I was still craving Fish. The only place in Davis that I could think that sold the type of fish I wanted was at Cafe Bernardo's.

Photo from Cafe Bernardo website
Cafe Bernardo's has two fish items on the menu more importantly to me it has two salmon items on the menu. One is the Salmon B.L.T. which is what I ate for lunch today and the other is a salmon salad. I've had the salmon B.L.T. today and like usual it was not a let down. However, my goal for lunch was to try something new. So, i should have tried the Salmon salad.

I failed to try the salmon salad because one I forgot I was supposed to be trying a new food item for lunch and two it had some items in it that seemed like together I would not enjoy them. The grilled salmon salad has bloomsdale spinach, arugula, watermelon radish, pumpkin seeds, and citrus dressing. None of these items sound appealing to me, I briefly thought about trying it, but the radishes definitely turned me off.

I know I like pumpkin seeds, but with the mix of everything else those could not get me to try the salad. The radishes were just not something I wanted to try, I do not like radishes and sadly I don't think I have ever tried them. So, mostly I said no to this new item because I was scared to try something new. There was nothing that I knew for certain I would not like, but I still didn't want to try it because of my preconceived notions of what I thought was bad.

To remedy this issue we just have to remember to try everything, even if we think those items will be disgusting because we don't know how it will taste until will try. If we don't give new food items a chance then we limit ourself to a very limited amount of food items. To try new foods we just have to take that leap. I think I'll start with only one new item in the food I'm going to try though.... Baby steps.

Marine Corps Friendships

Interaction with marines is never the same as with civilians. You already have this common ground, it is easy to go up and talk to a marine and create a conversation, the environment is simply just different. It is hard to explain to someone who has not experienced it. In the marine corps to a certain extent you already care about the person standing beside you.

However, meeting them on a friend level is different. It is a lot like high school with it's many cliques based on platoons and then broken down even further. So, although there is 200 people they all already have their friends within the unit. So to become friends it often takes time or needing help from someone to become close with them. Like most relationships it simply takes effort without effort there is no relationship.

I met three of my closest friends in boot camp. Boot camp like any other places has cliques people you like and don't like. Unlike in the civilian world this connection did not make us the same because everyone there had the same goal to become a Marine. However, to me it explains all Marine Corps friendships. Many people who have not been through this experience do not understand this relationship. In this short time you become so close to people because they're all you have. They're the people who understand your life and what you're going through.

Despite the fact that you are often far apart and rarely get to see each other that care and love do not go away. It's been over a year since I've seen these girls and I know I could always count on them for anything. They're just a phone call or plane ride away. Whenever I need anything I can simply call them and they'll be there.

Our bond remains despite time, distance, and even death. Last year we lost Sara, I still feel her presence everyday. It made the three of us that much closer, taught us to cherish the time we have with each other and most importantly it showed us that we all truly are friends. That in the most difficult of times we are there for one another.

Talking to other Marines is an easy task, but surpassing that simple Marine Corps bond can be hard. Now More then ever I make sure to talk to these girls from boot camp, to never lose touch, to maintain the friendship that we have. Once, we surpass that Marine Corps bond it is like any other friendship, one that needs work to be maintained.
