Thoughts From Sam #7 Summer

With the weather in California acting as crazy as it has been, it's got me thinking a lot about what I can't wait for in summer. If you didn't know, one day its super hot and the next day its like freezing cold. I just can't keep up. So... it has me really looking forward to the normal hot weather of summer.

I can't wait for shorts. My legs seriously need a tan. Whenever I see them I'm seriously shocked by how they have absolutely no tan. My legs actually don't look this tan in this photo, but I love my nails in this photo.

Manicure and Pedicure. I might actually get one right before graduation, but as expensive as they are. I always enjoy them. I wish I could keep my finger nails long without them, but I really can't. I think when I find a job though my nail colors will have to be less colorful blues. I'm gonna miss those.
I can't wait to go to the pool. It's cool and refreshing and fixes that tan issue I was just telling you about.

Free time. I'm currently super busy with school and the 3 million jobs I feel like I have. Although, I'll be working and looking for a job when I get home. I hope it will be a little more relaxing.

Baseball games. I love baseball and they're the perfect about of relaxing and exciting. Plus, we're going to beer hop to some game at some point. You'll get to hear about all the great bars and I'll get to try them all. I also need to find this shirt. I love this giants shirt.

Skydiving. My friend and I are supposed to go over the summer. I've been dying to go for at least 3 years now. So, hopefully this time it actually sticks and I can go. I've only heard good things about it.

Trips. I currently have no trips planned, but summer is for spontaneity. And I definitely hope I have time for that.

The Lake. Amanda's family has a cabin between Sacramento and Tahoe. I've gone almost every summer since, like forever ago. This year the water will be really low. So... we'll probably just lay out  on the water or paddle board. I can't wait.

Workout Wednesday!!

My workouts haven't been going as well as planned and I'm a little disappointed about it, but I got back to legitimate workouts yesterday. I even texted my sister Kristina. So... you can ask her for proof that I worked out.

The whole time I was home over the weekend, no planned workout occurred. Thursday, I was busy literally from when I woke up until when I went to sleep. Ok, I could of worked out at like 8am, but morning workouts are the hardest for me to get in. I actually could of worked out every morning all weekend considering I didn't start work until 12. However, I wanted to relax knowing I was going to be on my feet all day.

Which, my sister and everyone else have decided to point out to me is nothing they don't do everyday, but when you're not used to it. It is a serious feat to have to do 3 days in a row. By Monday my feet were killing me and surprisingly my calves. So... considering the fact that by the end of the working day my legs were tired. I'm gonna go with that at least 30 minutes each day counts as a workout.

However, that still puts me down 110 mins. #1000in30 comes out to about 30mins a day, but its actually 33mins per day. So, if you do 30 minutes exactly each day, you still come out down 33mins. So, I'm actually down a little over 3 days. AHHH!! But I have confidence that I can make it up. How are you guys doing on your workouts?

What are your hints to get you to workout? especially on the really busy days?

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. They are lost, but never forgotten. I'm lucky to not know anyone who lost their life in combat. However, many people do and their brother, sisters, mom, dad, and friend deserve to be remembered. The actions they have taken allow us to live the free life that we have today. I hope you are enjoying your memorial day weekend.

Here's the recap of my weekend so far. It wasn't nearly as relaxing as I would have liked, but that was my fault. I worked at old navy this weekend. I do that sometimes. I'll be going back full time once school finishes and I'm looking for a job. So... hopefully it will only be for summer.

I didn't do anything special, no trips, no nothing. I went out Thursday and Friday, but besides that I just worked and relaxed.
Amanda's artistic photo skills

Thursday
Thursday I went and watched my friends Adam and Michael play bocce ball. They're in a league in our hometown. It was a nice relaxing event. Michael's mom told me most people like it because you can play and drink. I just watched and drank some corona. It was relaxing.

The game took about 2 hours, I went to home for a little, bit but then we all went to Farrington's and Amanda joined us. I think Farrington's was busier on a Thursday then it was last Friday when I went. It was kind of weird, but it was fun. We just hung out and played pool. Afterwards, we got in n out which, was so good, but I also tend to like in n out all the time. However, it was a nice change from always having Mexican food.

Friday
Everyone that went out Thursday also went out on Friday, but Phill and Alexis joined us too. It was really nice to see them. I haven't seen them in a little while. We all met at Stadium Pub to get drinks, we didn't really have a plan for the night, but downtown Walnut Creek has quite a few bars. It was pretty packed. The service was really bad which I've never had an issue with previously and its always about that full. I was really unhappy about it.

My amazing photo skills
Afterwards, Phill really wanted to dance. So... we went to Redux. It was more empty then I remember it being. Which, was nice because the drinks didn't take that long to get. I had a really fun night with my friends, but I'm not really sure how I felt about the club as a whole. I usually like it, but Friday was a weird kind of night. It was kind of a flashback to high school which I didn't really enjoy.

Saturday and Sunday
I just worked these two days. We were supposed to go karaoke on Sunday, but for some reason I wasn't really up to it and I didn't really want to spend too much money.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun for Memorial Day?

Thoughts from Sam #6 Nostalgia

As you all know my undergraduate career is coming to a close. Unlike the semester system, I still have a month left to enjoy it. The last couple weeks and definitely this last month will be filled with nostalgia. I already feel like I'm feeling it everywhere.

Last week, I went to my high school to pick up my brother. Its always so weird going back. It feels so familiar yet I feel so out of place. 5 years later my high school still looks the same and some memories I continue to remember like yesterday.

Lately, as I walk around campus I'm reminded about my Freshman year and the dorms. It was one of the best years, I had in college. Which, I think is typical, everyone was literally a door away, meaning there was always someone to talk to when you were bored. I've basically just been reliving my college years, the good and the bad. I'm really gonna miss Davis, but its time for me to move somewhere else.

These pictures are from Freshmen year. Ignore my hair, it was our last day in the dorms. I'm still really good friends with two of them. I wouldn't change my dorm experience for anything. if you're just now entering in college, even if you live in the same town as your college. You need to dorm, it makes it easier to meet so many people and its just a lot of fun. It's worth the ridiculous price they make you pay. I'm gonna miss these days, but we have to grow up sometimes.

Do you ever think about your school days? High school or college? I feel like it will diminish once I'm finally gone from Davis, but for the next month I think its here to stay.

Have a good weekend

Workout Wednesday

So.... I'm finally somewhat consistently working out and I'm gonna share that tiny bit of success with you. I've been working out 3 times a week. Which is a lot better then my i'm gonna work out everyday during the week and then only end up doing it once routine.

I wish I kept up with Peanut Butter Runner's #UltimatePlankChallenge, but once I got behind I was very unmotivated to get back on track. I'm still trying to do them just, haven't done them everyday like you're supposed to.

Then last Friday, I'm pretty sure it was last Friday. I saw Living in Yellow's #1000in30 which sounds like a great thing and in theory it shouldn't be that hard because its only asking for about 30 minutes a day, but somehow it is ridiculously hard. I'm only on Day 4 and I'm already down 20 minutes, but its ok. Those 20 minutes could be easy to make up.

From PupSugar
Working out for me is all about being positive. If i'm not positive I'm definitely not going to get anything done. I also paired Living in Yellow's #1000in30 with this workout I saw on Peanut Butter Finger's website. Well, it was actually a link to Popsugar's Better Body Challenge. Which I think is a workout for may, but considering its on the web, I doubt it will just disappear.

I love that they've all been sharing their workouts. It keeps working out in my minds and makes me motivated. So... hopefully this will help you too.

How do you workout? Do you make your own plans? Or do you find them online?

Things I Can't Say No To

Here's a list of some things that I love.

Chocolate. I love chocolate. It is seriously my greatest weakness and I crave it all the time. They've pulled out this big candy bag every time I've gone to the kids house I watch recently. I mean to eat one and next thing I know I'm on the 5th one.

Popcorn. Who goes to the movies without popcorn. I've done it. It's beyond awkward. What am i supposed to do with my hands?

Netflix. Literally, will take my whole Saturday away, but when I don't have time for it I miss it so so much. I'm also usually really stressed when this happens. So, its a good way to relax.

Converse. I've owned a pair of converse since high school. I refuse to go without them. I have to buy new ones every couple of years. I'm sure I'll grow out of them eventually, but right now. They're my go to comfy shoe. Plus, they make me feel young, well younger because I'm not old yet.

Ice Cream. I actually haven't had ice cream in awhile, but that's mostly because someone keeps eating the flavor that I want. Like its there one minute and then when I go to eat it, its all gone. It's as if my family knows I wanted it that day or something.

My degree. I know, technically I haven't gotten it yet, but I definitely have never been able to say no to it. Ever since, I can remember I knew I was gonna walk across that stage and be able to make something of my life. And that time is finally here. A month - 2 days and I'll officially be a #collegegraduate.

Last year in front of our dorm from Freshmen year
Iphone. It does so many things. I literally didn't want to drive somewhere the other day because I didn't have my phone and the idea of looking at paper instructions to get there was beyond ridiculous to me. Plus, knowing me I would get lost and then I would of been stranded in some random city. Basically, it would of been horrible and I would not have been able to drive before the age of iPhones.

What can you not live without? Are you more about food?

Weekend Roundup #9

This is what guys do in bars apparently
I sadly haven't ventured to any new places in awhile, but I definitely need to do that. Anyways, my weekend was pretty fun. I had family time and fun time.

Thursday night, some of my friends came up to visit. I was super excited to show them Davis, but we ended up going to Barwest in sac. Maybe I'll have a chance to show them Davis before I graduate, but that's unlikely. The bar was more crowded this time after 11 and the fish bowls weren't nearly as sugary as last time or..... There were other reasons I couldn't taste the sugar. We took s group picture that I was super excited about but my friend's phone it was on wouldn't send them to me because he didn't like how he looked. I totally would of cropped him out but whatever.

Friday night my friend Adam and I just went to Farringtons to get drinks. It was really dead for some reason and just not that great. He felt really bad about it which is dunno because it totally wasn't his fault. We then went to La Piñata after and for some reason all the waiters were looking at me funny as I walked in. It was a little uncomfortable and then I never found out why they were staring at me. I thought something happened one time I was there and I just didn't remember, but my friends didn't think that was the case.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early and watched my nephews. My sister was presenting at the Stanford conference and she did amazing. I'm so proud of her. My nephews and I just hung out and went to Xavier's baseball game. Xavier did awesome, but poor Quentin just spent the whole time sleeping because the poor boy was sick.

Saturday night I went out to Pura in San Francisco with some friends. It was alright, but it's more of a Hispanic club which isn't really my scene. I kind of failed at dancing, but whatever. We did take an amazing Polaroid though. The guys were like wtf at first, but they ended up loving them. But unfortunately we didn't take any other pictures.

Saturday my brother also went to the city for prom. He looked adorable with his girlfriend. i'm pretty sure by the time I got to the city he was like getting ready to leave. They took some amazing pictures at Treasure Island. So... if you're looking for a great spot for any type of pictures you should try there.

Sunday was just a wash. I didn't really do anything. I studied a little and just hung out at home. I met my best friends aunt which her mom was super happy about. She was really nice. Then I came back to school and just studied for my econ midterm.

Signature

Have you guys noticed anything new on the blog lately? I finally added a signature, check it out at the bottom. I've been trying to figure out how to add one for awhile now. Well, I actually thought I did add one, but it turns out it didn't work and now I don't know how to remove it. Luckily, its only a couple of posts. Anyways, I finally figured out a way to add one today that is super easy.

Most sources I found explained it really easily, but you had to implement the code it your layout. However, the code cannot be implemented in all layouts. Some other sources only added the signature to new posts. I didn't like this one because it wasn't on all my posts, but then for some unknown reason the picture didn't show up on my posts. It just showed up as a block with a question mark in it.

Today, I found this post by Cody it Pretty that allowed me to implement my signature in one easy step. Well, only one step if you count the fact that my signature was already uploaded on an online picture storing website. I use PhotoBucket, but she also recommends using Picasa Web Album.

What do you think of the signature? I'm not sure if I like it. So, it might actually change up again so, but let me know what you think.

Thoughts From Sam #5 Midterm Week and Grad School.

It's finally my last round of midterms, granted i still have finals, but we'll deal with that when it comes. I had some ideas to write about this week, but I just have no time. I barely have time to even talk to my sisters.

I had my midterm Tuesday and my paper is due today. Basically, this week is crazy and I just wanted to drop in today and tell you I'm sorry that I'm so busy. But I have to finish this last quarter of school and then I'm free until I go to grad school. Which, I actually don't think will ever happen, but maybe it will. The job field I want to get into it's slightly more necessary, but not mandatory.

However, I know nothing about grad school. I have no idea what I would even want to study. Which, is definitely why I want to start working now and think about all that in a couple of years. Hopefully, I'll have found out more about what I want to do and everything. Sorry for the Random Rant.

Have you guys gone to grad school or thought about it? Any advice since, I'm so confused. i don't really want to go, but I feel like it will eventually be a necessity.

Weekend Roundup #8

I went back to Concord again this weekend since it was Mother's day. I always like to get the most of the gas I use to get to and from home. So, I went back on Thursday like I normally do. My friends and I just spent a typical night at Vinnie's. I hadn't seen one of them in awhile because he was away for work. So, it was nice to see him again after awhile. It wasn't as crowded as it was the last couple of times we went. Which was actually really nice. I don't really like this place when its crowded because I just like to go and hangout and crowded places are hard to move through.

Friday I just went to dinner at BJ's. We waited for what felt like forever to get our table and then out food. On the plus side my burger the California Burger was absolutely delicious. I would get it again in a heartbeat. Granted I took off the peppers, changed the cheese for cheddar, and put regular mayonnaise on it. Basically, I made lots of substitutes, but it was still super delicious. The bread might have been the best part. However, it took 20 minutes for our waitress to come get our check which is a little ridiculous.

Saturday my sister Kristina and I took my mom out to breakfast at Katy's Kreek in Walnut Creek. I got the smoked salmon. it came with a bagel, cream cheese, eggs, and country potatoes. The salmon on the bagel was delicious. It could of used a little more cream cheese though. However, the rest of it tasted like a typical breakfast and I've never really been a big fan of country potatoes.

So, you should definitely try smoked salmon on a bagel, but I wouldn't rush back to Katy's Kreek to try it. It was good, but to me nothing special. However, if you're big on breakfast apparently this is the place to go. I'm only big on eggs which I can make at home.

Fashion:
So, this is actually the same dress I wore for Christmas. You can't really see it in this picture, but it is and I love it, but I will probably not wear it out that often during the day anymore because its a little to short for my liking. However, it is much better with stockings which is what I did on New Years.

Dress: Target, Christmas time
Cardigan: H&M, forever ago
Boots: Clarks, 3 years ago
Sunglasses: RayBans, 3 years ago

My mom's dress is surprisingly from Charlotte Russe. She got it last year for her graduation from California East Bay. Isn't she just amazing?

I hope you guys had a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day. What did you guys do for mother's day?

Monday Night- Trivia Night

Keith an Jessica
Monday Night was my friend Jessica's birthday. She just wanted a low key hang out. So, we went to trivia night at G Street Wunderbar. It was actually pretty fun compared to some of the other ones we have been to in Davis.

When we first got there the bar was pretty empty. However, by the time the game started all the tables  had a team. For a Monday night 8 teams is a pretty good amount. Granted its nothing like Sophia's, but it was decent. Plus, the questions were a lot easier then Sophia's. So, that was nice. If you guys didn't know yet. I'm horrible at trivia. I'm really just the weak link on the team. However, I did know like 2 questions last night.

The host for trivia night was pretty fun. He interacted with the crowd a lot, but I think its because a couple of the groups he was friends with or are regulars. He made quite a few sexual comments though which I think we could of done without. But he did keep it light and fun. The hosts at all the other one's I have been to mostly just say the questions and then move onto the next. So, if you don't know any. You're kinda just bored.

At this trivia night they also have a lot of bonus questions. Which if you get them right you get a free beer which is pretty cool. The bonus question is usually a little bit harder then all the other questions though. Which means I'd never have a chance at winning, but its all for fun. So, whatever. Jessica said I should know the baseball questions. They asked a question about the giants. About Willie Mays of all people and I didn't know the answer. It was pretty sad.

We also got some appetizers because I didn't really have dinner and there's a $15 minimum on cards. So, i might as well get my french fries if I have to spend the money anyways. The french fries were good, but I think I would have liked them better without their special seasoning. We also got some wings which were pretty good. After a couple they made my mouth a little hot though, but if you're a person that likes spicy or hot food you'll probably be totally fine. I'm trying to get my taste buds to like those types of food. I used to not be able to eat them at all.

Lastly, Trivia Night requires a drink per person. I got a Pivo Pilsner, which they have on tap and the bartender suggested it. It was pretty good, if it wasn't $6 I would get it again, but i think my Corona would of been cheaper. However, since I had to spend $15 dollars anyways, I guess it really doesn't matter. All in all Trivia Night was a success and I would probably go back again, but bring cash next time.

How was your Monday night? Was it filled with fun or work?

What to Expect at a Kid's Birthday Party

As you already know on Saturday I went to my cousins' birthday party. It was actually two sister's celebrating their birthday together. The party was in-between their two birthdays. So, here are some things I experienced there.

1. There are little kids everywhere.
2. There's an endless supply of screaming and crying.
3. Something will spill.
4. There is adult food and child food. (Which means I didn't get any pizza. I really wanted pizza.)
5. If you don't know that many people the party is kinda boring.
6. You feel like an adult and out of place.
7. Jumpy houses are not the same at 23. I thought if I jumped it would just be all bad.
8. You feel bad because you kind of wanted to go home after being there for 5 minutes.
9. Kids now only pick the candy they like out of the Piñata.
10. There is a kid's party and an adult party.
Bonus: I'm now an adult and I want to be a kid.

Basically, children's parties are nothing like I remember them being when I was a kid. I've gone to other children's parties before and they were nothing like this one, but maybe its because it was all my family that was there. So, I had more people to talk to and be entertained by.

What have you learned about kid's parties? How are they for the parents? Crazy?

Weekend Roundup #7

I haven't done one of these in awhile, but this weekend wasn't filled with excitement. Thursday Night no one was really down to do anything. So, I just went and hung out with my sister and her family and just had a beer with them. Well.... technically I just had a beer while I was there because they didn't have one.

Friday Night I got a drink at Hop Grenade, a beer bar in downtown Concord with some friends. I'm not a huge fan of beer. So, I don't go there very often. I got the Scrimshaw Pilsner which was really good. It's a summer beer I think or it tastes like one to me. The waitress told me what to order when I asked about summer beers and I totally heard her pronounce it wrong. That's why the spelling on my picture is so off. I felt so silly when I found out how off I was on the spelling.

However, since Hop Grenade is a beer bar the beer is a little pricer then I would like to pay. I don't know exactly how much mine was, but the cheapest one we got was $8 and the most expensive one was $16. I don't like beer that much to pay that regularly. So, I'll probably continue to just go occasionally. Hop Grenade is always full when I go which is nice and the staff is super friendly. As well, it has a really good vibe. It's just not really for me because of the price.

Birthday Girl
Saturday, I just hung out with my family all day, did homework, and watched the Maywether and Pacquiao fight. Well... I was there when everyone else was watching the fight. I was actually productive and did my homework during the fight.

Saturday morning was Xavier's baseball game. He did so good and his team won!!! I was so happy for him. Then I went to my cousin's 2nd birthday. They had a jumpy house that Quentin and I went in. He had so much fun, but he didn't even really jump in it. It was so silly.

Sunday, I had nachos for lunch with Amanda's mom and then drove back to Davis and did homework. It was a pretty boring weekend if you ask me. Hopefully next weekend will be more exciting.

How was your weekend? What was your favorite part?

Back to Working Out

Image from Every Second Counts
So, since, I started consistently writing this blog for you and for me. I've been trying to get back into working out. And as you and I both know, I've been failing miserably at it. So.... this is me once again trying to get back to working out. So, I've decided to make weekly goals for myself. Which, that goal is currently only at this week because I can't figure out what weekly goals to make just for toning.

My goal for this week was just to get back to working out. So, everyday this week I planned on doing a yoga workout. It's nice and easy and calming. For me this is the perfect way to get back into working out. It's not stressful and best of all I can do it at home. I have this wonderful Yoga app called Yoga Studio. They offer classes in 15, 30, and hour increments and a variety of different types of yoga. I mostly use strength, flexibility and relaxation, but there are a variety of other ones as well.

The first three days, I did it every day. I was only doing 15 minute workouts, but it was still a chore to get it done. How this is. I have no idea because I definitely have 15 minutes a day to spare and do a quick 15 minute exercise. However, it was, but I eventually did it. However, yesterday rolled around which was kind of a crazy day. Like I told you about yesterday and I never got around to do my quick workout, but a break one day of the week isn't horrible. I got back to the workout Thursday. Hopefully, I continue it the next two days.

So, it didn't really mess me up at all which is good. The biggest issue with me in working out is getting on a schedule and sticking to it. Once, I mess up my predetermined schedule in my head it often just makes me stop working out. My goal for next week is to do a run three times a week, it doesn't matter how long. Well... ok, it has to be at least 10 minutes. and to do yoga 6 times a week again.

Today is also the first day of the Ultimate Plank Challenge by Jen at Peanut Butter Runner. There's a different plank exercise everyday. I'm gonna give it a try. You should too. There is also a way to win some prizes every week. You may be a day late, but you should definitely still go check it.
